Mike Piazza is a twelve time major league all star catcher and holds the record for most home runs ever hit by a catcher. Although not drafted until the sixty-second round of the 1988 MLB draft, Mike overcame all obstacles to become regarded as the best hitting catcher in major league history. Mike has played for the Dodgers, Marlins, Mets, Padres and Athletics. Retired from Baseball, he now serves as an Advisory Board Member of Catholic Athletes for Christ.
Jesse Romero is a lay Catholic Evangelist whose diverse background has helped him spread the Good News of Jesus to a variety of people from all walks of life. After embracing his Catholic roots, Jesse studied and prayed his way back to a fervent on-going practice of the Catholic Faith. Through his experience with non-Catholics and fallen –away Catholics alike, Jesse has developed as a well-versed speaker on various Catholic issues and topics. He is a bilingual speaker, specializing in youth events, apologetics, evangelization, and bible study. Jesse will speak on the power of God’s forgiveness and mercy.
Reverend Daniel Mackle
Reverend Daniel Mackle is currently the pastor of St. Patrick’s parish in Philadelphia and the former director of the Office for Worship. Father is a well known speaker throughout the Archdiocese having attended Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary and graduate school at the University of Notre Dame. He will speak on the Eucharist as the source and summit of Spirituality leading to the Empowerment of men as fathers, husband and committed disciples of the Lord.
Ed Lis is the Director of Catholic Mission Integration for the Secretariat for Catholic Human Services. He is a native of Philadelphia and has earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Villanova. Ed will speak on how we encounter God through key experiences in our lives, some joyful and positive, while others can be challenging and painful. He will examine how some of these encounters invite us to examine our image of God and how God intervenes in our life.
Mark Houck Co-Founder and President of The King’s Men, Inc. will present on the theme of “The Heart of a Man: Holiness.” This workshop will explore what it takes for a Catholic man to be alive in faith and fulfill his vocation to lead, protect and provide for those in his care and to whom he is responsible.
Charles H. Ramsey
Charles H. Ramsey is Police Commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department. He came to Philadelphia in 2008. A native of Chicago, Commissioner Ramsey served in the Chicago Police Department for nearly three decades in a variety of assignments before being appointed chief of the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington DC, where he served for nearly a decade. Commissioner Ramsey is known to refocus police departments on crime fighting and prevention through a more innovative and accountable organizational structure. He will draw from his depth of experience and knowledge to address the Conference on how his Catholic faith has strengthened and guided his work of serving the Common Good.
